CSA Welcomes Two Oklahoma Staff Members

By Jim Moody, CAE
CSA President

One of the wonderful parts of our merger with the Oklahoma Lumbermen's Association is the opportunity to grow the CSA team.

Karen BakerMost of you know that Karen Baker, who served as the OLA Executive Director for more than a decade, joined us officially on Jan. 1. In reality, Karen has been working closely with us for a year as we navigated the merger approval and then began turning the two organizations into one.

I appreciate Karen's vision for the merger and the leadership she provided in Oklahoma to make this happen. She's working hard to help the rest of us get to know our Oklahoma members while she's also getting to know CSA and all the programs and services we provide.

She's rolling out store manager roundtables, dealer roundtables and the Next Generation Leadership Program, for starters. Meanwhile, she's continuing to manage key programs like Oklahoma government affairs and the life/dental/vision program that OLA has had in place. And of course, she will continue to handle the planning and on-site management for important programs like the Summer Fling, district meetings, golf tournament and the Move Over Baby Boomers (MOBB) group.

Having Karen join us has made the merger transition run smoothly, and we are thankful to have her.

Michael SniderDuring the merger process, we came to realize that our current "safety guy," Victor Shell, couldn't reasonably serve all the existing members plus the 50 or so Oklahoma dealers. Victor most certainly is a good guy and a hard worker, but there are already days when he's a one-armed paper hanger. Having one person serve that large of a territory for safety and transportation wasn't going to work. So, we committed to hiring a second "safety guy" (the real title is manager of safety and transportation) who would be based in Oklahoma. We welcomed Michael Snider this month.

The House and Senate have adopted more than forty bills and that number will only increase as the General Assembly races towards Crossover Day on Feb. 28.  Crossover Day is an important procedural milestone that requires a bill to be adopted by at least one chamber in order to have a chance at enactment this year.

Give Your Employees Reasons to Stay and They Won't Find Reasons to Go

By Rosemary Froehlich
Contributing Writer, LinkedIn

Sunday was my birthday. For a few days before, it seemed like every company I had ever done business with was reaching out to me with good wishes and little gifts.

Dunkin Donuts gave me a free coffee. Nice! I got a coupon for complimentary samples from Sephora. And when I went to get cash, my ATM flashed a birthday cupcake on the drive thru screen.

It all made me feel kind of happy.

Each of these companies was planting a tiny seed in my mind that I was appreciated.

Appreciation Matters. A Lot.

Intellectually I know these companies aren't my new best friends. But they do want my business.

It's the same with your employees.
